APCP Network to Support Therapists Working with Long Covid

The APCP is keen to support its members in managing this challenging and evolving condition and is working with the CSP and RCOT to understand the needs of therapists treating children and young people with long covid and related problems

Long Covid

In June funding was announced for 15 paediatric long covid hubs to be set up at NHS sites across England.

These hubs have been set up to include paediatricians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses and psychologists to directly treat youngsters, advise family doctors or others caring for them as well as refer them into other specialist services and clinics where appropriate, with all hubs now accepting referrals from secondary care paediatricians.  Further funding has been allocated regionally to support ongoing treatment and rehabilitation needs.

Whilst the long term impact of long covid in children and young people remains unclear it is recognised that allied health professionals, including physiotherapists, will have a key role to play in the rehabilitation of this group.

APCP MSK Committee member, Vic Harbottle has been recruited to work with the Paediatric Long Covid Hub in Newcastle and is currently trying to collate contacts to bring together therapists working in the other Regional Hubs to facilitate a support network.
