The APCP North West Region hosted its first webinar on Wednesday, 24th February
Rett Syndrome - Physiotherapy intervention and realistic long-term managment was presented by guest speaker, Gilly Martin.
Gilly Martin first encountered Rett Syndrome in the early 1990s when she had a couple of girls on her caseload. This led her to get involved with a specialist Rett clinic in Cardiff and, more recently, with Rett UK.
In this webinar, Gilly gave a brief overview of Rett Syndrome and shared her knowledge and experience of treating girls and women with Rett Syndrome. The presentation was supported with video footage of Rosie, a young lady with Rett Syndrome. Attendees really valued the use of these video clips for demonstrating some of the typical features of Rett Syndrome as well as highlighting how Rosie was able to use eye-gaze for communication. Gilly shared many of her 'quirky' tips ... treatment strategies that she has found helpful.
The webinar was attended by 148 attendees with over 80% of attendees rating the webinar as excellent and commending Gilly for an engaging and compassionate presentation.
One attendee commented: 'Really fabulous speaker and I felt the talk offered something to everyone whether you had experience or not. I can't wait to try some of the very interesting ideas she discussed;.
