What has happened recently in NICE?

Just published!
Head injury: assessment and early management – this guidance focuses on the early assessment
and management within accident and emergency departments, transfer to neuroscience units and

Other guidance in process of being developed:

Weight Management in adults and children is now in committee stage. Dr Grace O’Malley is on the
committee: a paediatric physiotherapist and clinical researcher specialising in childhood obesity and
exercise science. She is based at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Draft guidance
consultation due 22 September 2023 - 03 November 2023 and publication due 5 th March 2024
Rehabilitation for Chronic Neurological Disorders Including Traumatic Brain Injury
This will include children and young people. The final scope document from which the committee
will develop the guidance has been published https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/gid-
ng10181/documents/final-scope and the guidance is being developed in committee. Consultation on
the draft guidance appears to have been postponed. The final guidance document is to be published
on 15 January 2025.
Epilepsy – extraordinary review expected publication date was 10th May but not published yet. This
is to review Valproate prescribing in children and adults under 55 years.
