CP Sport – Promoting Participation in Frame Football

Cerebral Palsy Sport is the country’s leading national disability sports organisation, improving the health and emotional wellbeing of people with cerebral palsy through physical activity, and engaging the community in a number of programmes and interventions.

CP Sport Frame Football Skills Cards

Frame Football is an adapted format of football designed for people who require the support of a walking aid such as a frame/walker. The adapted and inclusive game was designed to enable children, young people and adults, who were previously unable to play football, the opportunity to play with ambulant or non-disabled players. It is a new way to play the beautiful game of football.

We recognised the challenges faced by people with cerebral palsy and other physical impairments due to Covid-19. Participation levels are much lower for individuals and families with a disability with limited access to activity during the pandemic. There has been a real shift in attitudes towards keeping active at home and in community spaces. We set about creating resources to support individuals to be active and participate in football at a time when many clubs were unable to run. With a return to sport, it was important individuals felt confident about returning to play.

The Frame Football skill cards have been developed to support individuals to play frame football at home, in the garden or in outdoor spaces with family and friends. They are a great resource to keep players practising and engaged in football.

Cerebral Palsy Sport supported the FA, our funding partner with their digital campaign “Football Your Way. The online hub features resources across various impairment formats including Blind, Powerchair and Frame Football. Our Frame Football skills cards feature within the hub. For more information please visit Football Your Way

The Frame Football Skills cards are a great resource alongside the Game Frame rental services. CP Sport and Quest offer a rental service where Game Frames and Frame Running Frames can be hired on a three month basis. Game Frames are specifically designed for frame football. They are sturdier than a Kaye walker, and also have wider spaced front wheels to allow for better ball control and movement. The manoeuvrability of the game frames also enhances the users playing experience. Each Game Frame comes with a free football and access to online 1-1 coaching support. CP Sport Club Finder

Do you find families asking for local sport and activity opportunities? Cerebral Palsy Sport have launched a new Club Finder feature on their website. The Club Finder works by inputting a postcode and searching for clubs in a set radius. We currently have over 500 clubs registered on our club finder, and we update this regularly with new clubs, across a range of sports and activities. Club Finder is a great recourse for physiotherapists to use and promote to families and individuals to encourage them to find an activity local to them they that can get involved in. to visit club finder please go to the CP Sport website

Female CP Football Hubs

Cerebral Palsy Sport are committed to increasing opportunities for people to play football, and access a format that’s appropriate to them. We recognise the opportunity to develop new opportunities for females to play football. Following our national female CP football events in 2019, we understand that a number of female players are looking for opportunities to play with other females with similar impairments. From this we are working with a number of football clubs to host a Regional Female CP Football Hub. The hubs will provide regularly playing opportunities for female players.
