In February 2024 the British Society of Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery (BSCOS) and the Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists (APCP) published their DELPHI Consensus Statement on the management of Idiopathic Toe Walkers. The statement is the formal outcome of a collaborative project aimed at aligning theory and practice, and identifying and clarifying the current gold standard pathway of care for children who walk on their toes in both Physiotherapy and Orthopaedic services across the UK.
Christine Douglas (MSK Committee) and Anne McNee (ND committee) were steering committee members of this project. This APCP webinar is a chance to explore the toe walking literature and delve into the DEPHI consensus findings. We also wished to use this as an opportunity to start a discussion with APCP members who look after children and young people who toe walk: identifying Physiotherapy specific ideas and needs, suggesting future work, and initiating collaboration opportunities.
Learning outcomes:
- To evaluate the current literature supporting intervention options for idiopathic toe walkers and how it translates into practice.
- To critically review the BSCOS/ APCP consensus on management of idiopathic toe walkers.
- To review pathways of care in different hospital settings to assist creation of local guidelines and practice.
