The conservative management of anterior chest wall deformity has been presented at the British Thoracic Society Winter Meeting 2023 and regularly presented across Health Boards in Scotland.

Speakers: 

Ashley

Ashley has been the driving factor behind developing the physiotherapy role in the National Chest Wall Service and is currently lead in the research project to demonstrate and evaluate the efficacy of Vacuum Bells for patients with Pectus excavatum and Pectus Arcuatum.

Isla is the senior physiotherapist who leads with clinics for assessment and monitoring of pectus excavatum and pectus arcuatum chest wall patients.

Donna is the senior orthotist who leads with clinics for the assessment and monitoring of chest wall pectus carinatum patients.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Ability to recognise and analyse anterior chest wall patient presentations; primarily pectus excavatum, pectus carinatum and pectus arcuatum.
  • Awareness of conservative management options available for anterior chest wall conditions.
  • Evaluate the role of physiotherapy and consider ongoing research developments for future practice.
