This workshop will be beneficial to the following:
Paediatric physios, Occupational therapists, Speech and Language; and will include the following:
- Neurodivergent & what neuro-affirming actually means. ·
- Dr Beardon will provide you with a tool-box of researched strategies looking at and considering how to engage with children/ young people during their appointment journey, covering:
- How to communicate
- Their arrival / whilst waiting to be seen.
- How to deal with them during the actual appointment room, how to communicate, what signs to be aware of and finally, closing of an appointment for both the patient and family.
- Overall provide exemplar approach to neuro-divergent patients, eg. 5 - 10 x key strategies to take away.
- Case studies / life experience and much more.
Guest speaker - Dr Luke Beardon
Luke is an English academic in the field of autism studies. He has written over 10 books on Autism in both children and adults. As of March 2024, he is a Senior Lecturer with The Autism Centre at Sheffield Hallam University, as well as a service coordinator with the National Autistic Society. He received a Doctor of Education degree from Sheffield Hallam University.
