Consultation on NICE guideline on Asthma: diagnosis, monitoring and chronic asthma management

This guidance will cover adults, young people and children who are being investigated for suspected asthma, or who have been diagnosed with asthma. It is very wide-ranging covering assessment, objective tests, diagnosis, pharmacological treatments, monitoring control of asthma, self-management, the effect of inhalers on the environment, and information on asthma. Non-pharmacological treatments will not be reviewed in this guidance.

The consultation is due to start on 21/05/2024 and it will run for 6 weeks, closing on 03/07/2024. APCP contact you again by email when the consultation starts.

We are looking for one or two APCP members to collate comments from the members that we can submit to NICE at the end of the consultation. This could either be a member or members of the APCP respiratory special interest group and/or APCP member(s) with a special interest in Asthma. If you would be interested, please contact (nice@apcp.org.uk). The submission process is uncomplicated and guidance will be provided by the APCP NICE officer.

New NICE guidance was published on 19 March 2024 on Meningitis (bacterial) and meningococcal septicaemia: recognition, diagnosis and management

This guideline includes the management of babies and children and long-term complications and follow-up for bacterial meningitis and meningococcal disease. Development of new guidance in the committee stage a. Over Weight and Obesity Management – https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/indevelopment/gid-ng10182 This guideline includes management in children and young people. Final publication date of the guidance is to be confirmed.

b. Rehabilitation for Chronic Neurological Disorders Including Traumatic Brain Injury. Includes children and young people. c. Epilepsy – extraordinary review expected publication date is delayed and to be confirmed. This is to review Valproate prescribing in children and adults under 55 years.
