The APCP Respiratory committee has commented on the draft Consultation on NICE guideline on Asthma: diagnosis, monitoring and chronic asthma management 

This guidance will cover adults, young people and children who are being investigated for suspected asthma, or who have been diagnosed with asthma. It is very wide-ranging covering assessment, objective tests, diagnosis, pharmacological treatments, monitoring control of asthma, self-management, the effect of inhalers on the environment, and information on asthma. Non-pharmacological treatments will not be reviewed in this guidance. It is now in committee stage and the final guidance is due to be published 27 November 2024. Development of new guidance in the committee stage  

a. Over Weight and Obesity Management – https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/indevelopment/gid-ng10182  This guideline includes management in children and young people. Final publication date of the guidance is to be confirmed.   

b. Rehabilitation for Chronic Neurological Disorders Including Traumatic Brain Injury. Includes children and young people. Consultation on the draft guidance has been postponed and publication of the final guidance document is due on 15 January 2025.  https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/gid-ng10181/documents/final-scope  

c. Epilepsy – extraordinary review expected publication date is delayed and to be confirmed.  This is to review Valproate prescribing in children and adults under 55 years. Quality Standards in development  

Quality standards give criteria against which a service can determine if they are implementing NICE guidance effectively. These standards along with the relevant NICE guidance can sometimes help to contribute to business cases for staff or equipment if that is the intervention being assessed. 

a) Obesity: clinical assessment and management (QS update) The expected publication date is 11 December 2024. You can view information about the standards and the consultation here:

b) Quality standards for Meningitis (bacterial) and meningococcal septicaemia: recognition, diagnosis and management The consultation on the draft standards has now closed and the standards will be published 4th December 2024.
