Kneeling is a useful position that can help strengthen your baby’s control of their body. This position can also help them learn how to pull up into standing and reach higher surfaces.
You can first try to support your baby into a kneeling position with both their knees on the floor, and another surface in front of them. If your baby appears comfortable in this typical kneeling position, you could try ‘half high kneeling’ (one knee up with the foot on the floor)
The picture below shows a baby being supported in ‘half high kneeling’. You may need to make several movement changes to help your baby find a stable position.
This activity would be suitable for a baby who can sit up independently and is either crawling or showing interest in trying to crawl
