The APCP South East Region hosted a 2-hour Zoom Workshop on chronic pain in children and young people with 28 attendees on Wednesday, 3rd February 2021.
The workshop was facilitated by community paediatric physiotherapists, Jenny Seggie and Siobhan Gray.
The workshop began with presentation from Jenny looking at chronic pain and chronic fatigue conditions, including Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders. This was followed by consideration of the Biopsychosocial Model and its relationship with the International Classification of Functioning (ICF).
Attendees were then split into breakout rooms to consider a couple of case studies where they were asked to ...
- have a go at 'unpacking case study information and organising it into relevant domains on the ICF
- identifying appropriate assessment and outcome measures
- identify what might be the most important therapy goals for the child / young person
- identifying facilitators and barriers to management
- discuss possible management strategies.
It was hoped that the workshop would help attendees to feel more confident with their managment of children and young people with chronic pain and chronic fatigue and to give then more awareness of the tools and guidelines available to support their management plans.
The full delegate feedback can be read HERE.
The majority of attendees expressed an interest in further CPD and networking opportunities related to paediatric pain management. Jenny and Siobhan are keen to follow this up and and will be discussing this with members of the APCP MSK Committee.
