APCP North West Region Afternoon Webinar - Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs): Guidance, implications and legislation

An afternoon webinar looking at Education, Health and Care Plans from a legal and professional perspective.

The APCP North West Region hosted this afternoon webinar on Wednesday 20th September 2021.

Special Educational Needs

The webinar included presentations from Katie Worley on the 'Changing Climate in EHCPs' and 'Professional guidance: Report writing for EHCPs and attending tribunals'.

Katie is a Paediatric Physiotherapist previously worked in the NHS and now works as a private paediatric physiotherapist and expert witness.  She was therefore able to share her knowledge and experience of writing reports for EHCPs with clarity and understanding of the issues for both NHS and private therapists.

The legal perspective was delivered by Erin Smart a solicitor with expertise in Special Educational Needs.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Increase understanding of the role of the healthcare professional in EHCPs and legal responsibility and accountability for contributions provided to an EHCP
  • Increased awareness of the different sections of EHCPs and writing reports for EHCPs which reflect the child's needs
  • Understanding of what happens if the EHCP is appealed and how to prepare for attending a tribunal

This 3-hour afternoon webinar was attended by @ 140 members.  The presentations were followed by a lengthy Q& A session with Katie and Erin.
